CENTRAL PREMONITIONS REGISTRY - Most Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Do precognitive dreams mean that the future is fixed?
A1: NO! There is no philosophical or research grounds for claiming
that our future is fixed in terms of predestination. Such an assumption is
totally illogical and does not tally with our experience of reality. Serious
theories of Precognition view this more like a Virtual future, which in other
words means that if the dream is truly precognitive, it refers to what will
happened UNLESS you use the new information from the dream in order to change
it. This is similar to a virtual state of a particle, which is not final until
the event itself is measured.
Q2: Is there any serious evidence for Precognition, and if so,
why to most scientists ignore it?
A2: Although there are a lot of unscientific beliefs and practices in
the area of foretelling the future and Parapsychology in general, there are
also some very good researches. Please refer to our Precognition research page for a short review of some
of the best studies and some of the leading theories on Precognition. The fact
that most of the scientific community ignores the evidence for Precognition
probably stems mainly from psychological reasons, since the existence of
Precognition can threaten many notions in our world-view. Especially because
Precognition is so hard to accept and understand theoretically, some of this
research has been designed much more strictly than many psychological
experiments and some of the results have significance levels far beyond what
is usually required for psychological experiments. There is an interesting
article by Irvin Child (American Psychologist, Vol. 40, 1985) That illustrates
this point very well. Here is the exact quotation of the abstract of this
article: "Books by psychologists purporting to offer critical reviews of
research in Parapsychology do not use the scientific standards of discourse
prevalent in Psychology. Experiments at Maimonides Medical Center on possible
Extrasensory Perception (ESP) in dreams are used to illustrate this point. The
experiments have received little or no mention in some reviews to which they
are clearly pertinent. In others, they have been so severely distorted as to
give an entirely erroneous impression of how they were conducted. Insofar as
psychologists are guided by the reviews, they are prevented from gaining
accurate information about research that, as surveys show, would be of wide
interest to psychologists as well as to others"
Q3: Why do you put the emphasis on dreams and not other modes of
Precognition?
A3: Dreams have always been the most common channel for Precognition
and most of the good cases of Precognition occurred in dreams. The reason is
clearly that dreams are the only state of consciousness in which our
consciousness is sufficiency disconnected from reality to enable temporal
displacement of information. For this reason we mainly encourage dream
reports, But if you had other significant Precognitive experiences that did
not involve dreams you are also invited to report them to us.
